Deep Dive into the “FutureSense” Interior

When you step into the Oshan X7, the first thing you notice is that Changan didn’t just want to build a car; they wanted to build a lounge. However, as with any tech-heavy vehicle, there are areas where it shines and others where it stumbles.

The Positives: Where it Wins

  • The “Wow” Factor (Terracotta Tan): Most local cars stick to safe blacks or beiges. The Oshan X7 uses a bold Terracotta Tan faux-leather theme. It feels premium, warm, and distinctly modern compared to the aging interiors of its rivals.
  • Class-Leading Space: Thanks to its massive 2786mm wheelbase, the legroom is arguably the best in its segment. Even in the 7-seater configuration, the first two rows feel palatial.
  • The Panoramic Sky: The massive panoramic sunroof floods the cabin with light, making the already large interior feel even more “airy.”
  • Ventilated Luxury: In the sweltering heat of Lahore or Karachi, the heated and ventilated front seats are a lifesaver. This is a feature usually reserved for cars twice its price.
  • Localized Tech: The Human Machine Interface (HMI) supports screen mirroring and has a fairly responsive touch panel for climate control, giving it a very “Tesla-lite” feel.

The Negatives: The Room for Improvement

  • The Third-Row Struggle: While it’s marketed as a 7-seater, the third row lacks dedicated AC vents. In Pakistan’s summer, sitting in the very back can quickly become a “sauna experience” for passengers.
  • Ergonomic Oversight: Surprisingly, the steering wheel lacks telescopic adjustment (it only moves up and down, not in and out). For taller drivers, finding the perfect seating position can be a bit of a puzzle.
  • Piano Black Problems: The interior uses a lot of high-gloss “Piano Black” plastic. While it looks stunning in the showroom, it is a magnet for fingerprints and scratches. You’ll find yourself cleaning it constantly to keep it looking fresh.
  • Infotainment Limitations: While the screen is large, the software can feel a bit dated compared to international standards, and the lack of native Apple CarPlay/Android Auto (requiring third-party mirroring apps) is a frequent complaint among owners.

The Verdict

The Changan Oshan X7’s interior is a bold statement. If you value visual flair, massive legroom, and cooling seats, it’s hard to beat. However, if you frequently carry passengers in the third row during the summer, the lack of rear ventilation might be a dealbreaker.
